Community Club

Bartow's Turning Point: The Bartow Community Center

This vibrant community organization, formed in 1991, has revitalized what was once a dying town. Through the Club’s efforts, funds have been raised for the restoration of the former Bartow Schoolhouse, which has been transformed into the Bartow Community Center. The building now contains a banquet faciliy and professionally equipped theater. The Club provides on-going financial support for Bartow’s various needs, such as park improvements, restoration of the town’s historic depot and creation of The Bartow Museum.

Town of Bartow Schoolhouse

The Community Club holds monthly meetings at the Bartow Community Center on the first Thursday of each month at 6:30p.m. A covered dish supper precedes each meeting and entertainment follows. Also sponsored by the Club are the annual Speir’s Turnout Festival and reunions of the Bartow School. The Club publishes cookbooks, one of which achieved best=seller status. One of the members’ ambitious undertakings was hosting the 2000 American Austin Automobile-Bantam Car Club Rally, which celebrated the 100th anniversary of the birth of Roy Evans, a Bartow native who pioneered the jeep and the Bantam Car. An even larger rally followed in 2007. The most recent project is The Bartow Museum, 250 years of history in an 1859 depot.
